Dragon Metalworks is a passion project of historical re-enactor Amanda, also called Antonius. My goal is to create artistic interpretations, recreations, and accurate replicas of various historical tokens, numismatics (a fancy word for money and medals), jewelry, and trinkets. I hand carve molds in a material called soapstone. Soapstone is composed primarily of talc, which is among the softest known materials on earth. The rest of the soapstone, about 5%-10% is composed of carbon, silicates, and iron and iron oxides. I use soapstone not only because it is soft and fun to carve, but it is also not reactive. It is impervious to even extraordinary heat. Once carved, a backing stone is created, and then the object can be cast! I cast primarily using a lead-free pewter, but I also cast items in copper, brass, and bronze. As much as I love the finished items, my true passion is the carving. In future, I hope to make many hundreds of molds, and offer a wide variety of artistic and historical items.
