This is a handmade replica of a Samian ware two handled cup. It was thrown on my potters wheel, I attached pulled handles, then piped on slip in a Roman design. After drying I brushed 4 layers of terra sigilatta and burnished with a cloth. It was then fired in my kiln to earthenware temperature. It is not glazed, the brick red color comes from Terra sigillata a fine slip, which becomes hard and waterproof after firing. It contains NO lead nor other harmful chemicals.
It stands 3 & 3/4 in. tall, and holds 13 oz.
Because this is earthenware, as were the originals, it will "sweat" if it holds liquid for very long. It will not leak, but should not be placed on a wood surface without a coaster.
