Our Bird of Skulls, very much adapted from a mid-15th century (c. 1444-1450) version of Dante's Divina Commedia (Divine Comedy).
In the original, drawn by Giovanni di Paolo di Grazia, a Sienese artist (currently in the British Library), the Dante, led by Beatrice, encounters the Eagle of Justice, comprised of many souls, yet which speaks with one voice. We have sculpted this Eagle of Justice, but haven't put it into casting yet.
This pin is a mirror image, which would be from the inferno, of a similar bird which is also comprised of many souls, sculpted here as skulls, but which speaks with a cacophony of voices, each striving to drown the others out. It is an original adaptation, commentary on today's environment, where justice becomes just a shadow, unable to find the binding identities needed for a body politic to function.
The pin is about 1 3/4" long, so nice and bold. Made in high quality jeweler's brass.
