This handmade, wheel thrown, pitcher has a glossy smooth brown interior and an exterior earth tone glazes. Since the pitcher is high fired stoneware with the interior glaze, it does not leak or seep liquid. The curve of the sturdy handle is reflected in the curve of the center of the pot and the pulled spout is functional for efficient pouring as well as adding beauty. The surface decoration is a carved "wheat" design. These were designs used in the Medieval era.The handle is well-attached, sturdy, and balanced. The foot is a 'thumbed' design, also a Medieval aspect.
Although based on traditional Medieval/Renaissance ware, the clay and glaze are both high-fired and foodsafe. The design is based on extant examples from the book "Surry Whitewares" by Jacqueline Pearce and Alan Vince.
This jug is 7 in. tall and holds about 1 quart of hot or cold liquid.
